Round Farmhouse Tablescape | How to Design a Circular Table For Christmas | Amitha Verma

If you have a round farmhouse table and you’re wondering how to design a circular table for Christmas, this tablescape tutorial is for you!

This is going to be a very dramatic tablescape, so I’m going to show you how to create a lot of layered high drama.

However, if it’s too much drama for you, I’ll also show you how to easily swap out a few pieces of decor. Either way, you can make a beautiful, glamorous, holiday style tabletop that you can enjoy all season.

I’m nicknaming this my “charcuterie style” tablescape because anything goes.

To create a “wow” impact, a great tip I want to share with you is to bring it all together and collect it all into one spot.

In this blog post, you’ll learn exactly how to to do this using these steps:

  1. Choose a tablecloth and scrunch it
  2. How to place your holiday decor
  3. How to use excess Christmas ornaments
  4. Ways to swap out tall holiday decor

Now let me break it down for you before I show you the completed round farmhouse tablescape!

Choose a tablecloth

The first thing we’re going to do is choose a tablecloth to form the base of the round farmhouse tablescape design.

The first step Amitha Verma takes when styling a round farmhouse tablescape is to choose a tablecloth to form the base of the design.

Since we’re working with a round table, you can easily use any shape of cloth, textile, or runner.

For my table I used a square shape.

There are two placement options for this:

  1. Simply lay it flat with the four corners tapered down over the round rims of the table
  2. Bunch up the edges and round out your square to mimic the shape of your table

I chose to do the ladder of the two. I just love how loose, wrinkly, and organic it looks.

To style a round farmhouse tablescape, Amitha Verma bunches up the edges of her tablecloth to mimic the shape of the table.

The textile I’m working with is a really loosely woven white linen with gold foil detail. It’s a classic holiday color scheme and something that’s really on trend for this year. If you are ever unsure about what colors to commit to, this is a no brainer. It’s going to be around forever!

Since we’re not going to be using this table to dine on this year I’m going to leave the cloth to be a little bit wider, meaning less space to the edge.

Since Amitha Verma is not using her round farmhouse table to dine on, she leaves her tablecloth to be a little bit wider, meaning less space to the edge.

If you need to make room for a plate and place settings, you can just scoot your centerpiece or your tablescape closer into the center of the table.

And it’s that simple. We’ve got the first layer of our centerpiece down.

Start placing down holiday decor

The second step in styling a round farmhouse tablescape is to start placing down the holiday decor.

The second step in styling a round farmhouse tablescape is to start placing down the holiday decor.

White and gold is the primary color scheme that I’m going to use for all of the holiday decor on top of my tablecloth.

I’m going to start with some of my larger objects first, and I’m starting with this gorgeous hand beaded Christmas tree table topper.

To place holiday decor on a round farmhouse table, Amitha Verma thinks of her table as a clock. For this table, she arranged some decor at 11:00 o’clock and then the others at 3:00 o’clock. This creates a gap that isn’t too large or small.

For placement, I think of my circular table as a clock. I arranged some of my Christmas trees at 11:00 o’clock and then the others at 3:00 o’clock. This creates a gap that isn’t too large or small.

With my tallest holiday decor down, I then arrange different objects around my table such as golden deer and petite trays.

After she placed her tallest holiday decor down onto her round farmhouse table, Amitha Verma then arranged different objects around her table such as golden deer and petite trays.

The combination of these sorts of pieces create a little bit of visual interest in alternating heights.

Whatever I do on one side, I repeat on the other. With that done, you’ll be able to see where you have holes in your tablescape design.

How to use excess Christmas ornaments on a round farmhouse tablescape

To fill in the areas that feel empty, one of my favorite things to do is to use some of my favorite excess Christmas ornaments.

To fill in the areas that feel empty on her round farmhouse table, Amitha Verma, uses excess Christmas tree ornaments, such as her favorite style of large beaded hearts.

In this case, you can lay them out on your tablecloth in a variety of sizes. I also like to switch it up by encasing them in bowls to make them feel more special.

This is a nice way to switch up how you use your extra ornaments so they don’t get lost in your tree.

Amitha Verma uses a cluster of large beaded heart ornaments, pinecones, crosses, and small clear glass ones to fill the empty spaces on her round farmhouse tablescape.

For example, I used a cluster of large beaded heart ornaments, pinecones, crosses, and small clear glass ones. I do have some of these on my tree, but I love them so much, I wanted to place them out on my table.

I simply arrange these front and center as a part of my round farmhouse tablescape scheme.

Swap out tall holiday decor

If you feel like the overall round farmhouse tablescape has become too tall and you want to use it for a family meal or your Christmas dinner, all you have to do is swap the tallest decor for something on a medium or smaller scale.

Amitha Verma shows how you can easily swap out the tallest holiday decor from a Christmas tablescape for medium height objects so the table can be used for a family meal.

I chose to do that with my gold beaded Christmas tree toppers. Instead of the tall ones, I used some that would allow me to see the person at the opposite side of the table if I were to eat at it.

The finished round farmhouse tablescape
