5 Farmhouse Decor Trends That Are Here To Stay

The other day I was telling my Mom about my last haul.

“A what?” – she replied.

For those of you who don’t know like Mom, a haul is just a run where you go out and you find a whole bunch of home decor and furniture and things that you may want to add into your home.

As I was walking around, I was really asking myself if these are the things I want to commit to for the next 5-10 years?

What are the latest home decor trends or old home decor trends that are here to stay?

Especially if you love the French Country Farmhouse style that you often may see in my own home, design projects, and shop, Village Antiques in Houston.

So today I wanted to share 5 Farmhouse Decor Trends that are for sure here to stay!

1.Chippy & Distressed Farmhouse Decor Trend

As much as I love the cleaner, straighter lines I’ve progressed through my home design over the years, I immediately fell in love with this new vintage style side table that I put right next to my favorite armchair where I often sit in the morning and have a cup of coffee.

The words that struck me when I saw this French country farmhouse style side table were:

crusty, layered, textural, chippy, and distressed. I knew this would be the perfect piece to blend in with some of the finer pieces that I have throughout my home.

Over the years, I’ve added tons of chippy and distressed furniture pieces into my home, and am still drawing to it’s interesting and casual liveable charm.

The takeaway: The chippy, textural, distressed style you often find in French Country, Farmhouse, Vintage, and Antique style home decor pieces is a home decor trend that is here to stay.

2. Aged & Antique Style Mirrors Farmhouse Decor Trend

Another farmhouse decor trend that I loved back then that I still love and collect today are beautiful aged, antique style mirrors.

An old-style mirror is a great farmhouse decor or vintage style piece to add character, patina, charm, and beauty into your home, and onto your walls without adding a lot of color that you might get in an art piece.

This is one of the first French country antique pieces I started with when we started designing our home and I still look for these types of French Country decor pieces to add into places like always empty walls, hallways, bathrooms, and little niches throughout my home.

You can easily get this same look by taking an existing mirror in your own home, and giving it a makeover with Amitha Verma Chalk Finish Paint.

The takeaway: Old, vintage, antique, farmhouse decor, and french country style mirrors are a design trend that is certainly here to stay and a great place to splurge or indulge your passions!

3. Gold Farmhouse Decor Accents Trend

An old, I mean a very old French Country or French Farmhouse decor trend that is for sure here to stay is the color: gold! Gold, gold, gold – go for the gold!

This is something that my husband, Bobby, and I tend to argue about all the time. Whenever we are renovating a home, he loves to go for the latest metallic color trend. But at the end of the day he loves the classic, rich, timeless appeal of gold, as I do I, and so many of you dear friends!

You can easily add this color into your home with the addition of side tables, gilt or gold trays, wreaths, french country decor objects, farmhouse decor like these candlesticks and so much more.

The takeaway: Gold is here forever.

4. Woven Rugs Farmhouse Decor Trend

Whenever I start with any home decor or furnishing project, I typically always start with the rug first to serve as a point of inspiration. This is a great design hack, if you have no idea where to start, because it’s easy to spot what you do and do not love in a rug pattern.

Over the 15 years, and even now I tend to go for the same styles of rugs over and over and over again.

In my home design projects, I tend to select beautiful classic muted woven rugs. They provide the perfect color backdrop to achieve the French Country or Farmhouse style, and they make for a cozy floor covering where people can just gather around and curl up on. Even in more vibrant colors, you can still create the gorgeous French Country or Farmhouse style.

I was super excited on my last hunt to come across these gorgeous rug textile style pillows that can be easily tossed onto a sofa to create that same cozy look and feel.

The takeaway: Classic woven rugs with soft traditional patterns and muted colors are a design trend that is certainly here to stay, and a great way to express your authentic design style.

5. Painted Furniture Farmhouse Decor Trend

Last but not least – this is probably one of the most frequently asked questions in my shop.

Is painted furniture a trend?

The answer is yes and no. It is a trend but it’s a trend that’s been around for centuries and not going anywhere.

I will share with you, after living with lots of painted furniture throughout my own life, it is a beautiful and very peaceful, inspiring way to design your home.

The trick to not making it a trend is to make sure you’re mixing painted furniture with other finishes such as stained wood, natural wood, metals like the gold that we just talked about, other colors and textures so you have a variety all throughout your home.

This is also so nothing looks like that was so 2008 or 2012 or 2020 or whatever year you are looking back on!

If you are spending more time at home than usual, this is a great project you can do, in as little two hours or less. Give one of your existing furniture or decor pieces a makeover with Amitha Verma Chalk Finish Paint to instantly add that painted furniture charm into your own home.

The takeaway: If painted furniture and the chalk painted style has lasted for centuries, it is certainly here to stay. The trick to making it timeless? Add variety with other colors and textures in your home design.

So there you have it, that is my short list of things that I’m for sure never going to retire!

These are things that I still look for, and include my own home and whenever I advise people on things to look for in their own home projects.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s blog!

Leave a comment in the comment section and tell me which of these old French Country Farmhouse home decor trends you will never retire in your home.

You can find items just like I found on my haul at Village Antiques in Houston.

Till the next time we meet, keep making your home amazing with your design gifts.

Most gratefully,

Amitha
