Easy Hardware Project | Must-Try Home Improvement Update

I’ve got a fun, and do-able easy way for you to update your home, in just a matter of minutes.

I did it in my home, and I’m revealing the curtain on this simple trick to get a very beautiful, designer look in your home, like I did in mine.

Although it was easy, and fun, I will tell you this was one of our biggest arguments between hubby and I during the process of renovating our home.

From my experience in being an interior designer, and renovating hundreds of spaces, I knew this one upgrade, upgrading and personalizing my kitchen and the cabinet hardware throughout my home would take even my most boring, builder-grade finishes and give them a designer upgrade them overnight.

One of my biggest values, that I center my life, and my business around is authenticity. When I’m building or renovating, this is a great way to express your style, your passions, and you in your home.

Straight lines, turned hardware, antique, modern, gold, brass, polished nickel, that one piece of hardware can say a lot about you!

I’ve seen tons of kitchen cabinet hardware ideas, and my favorites are the ones that say this is me.

So in my home, I decided not to use the traditional silver hardware, and I wanted to go back to a very pretty brushed satin brass color in my kitchen.

First, my hubby and I love gold. Second, I wanted to add a bit of warmth to my very bright, soft white kitchen.

But hubby fought me on which color to use for our hardware.

He wanted to use polished nickel or silver, because that was “what was expected” from a renovation at that time. Secondly, he thought I was going backwards, like way back to the 1950s. And he wanted to go forward!

I wouldn’t give in, because I knew this was the right finish for our kitchen cabinets, and so we just stood at a stand-still for over 6 months!

In all honesty, I love the old time charm the gold brought into my kitchen, so in an effort to meet his needs we opted for a bit of a modern update on the old style which you can see in the video.

You will see for example, I used a beautiful soft yellowy satin brass, but instead of round knobs, we used a flat front rounded knob.

I added some more dramatic extra long, knurled or etched drawer cabinet pulls that look and feel very luxurious and decadent.

In the end he loved, loved, loved this project.

What he loved about it the most, was how unique, warm, and exquisite the end pieces were. And how much they expressed his personality.

We loved this project so much, we kept on going, and added more unique and more “us” to the other cabinets in the surrounding rooms such as soft satin brass colored bin pulls in my pantry and mudroom.

I even took it one step further in my “mom’s room” or guest room and opted for vintage style furniture hardware pulls. This has been one of my favorite touches in my home improvement project.

When friends and family visit, we always get many compliments on this home upgrade idea, and he always leads the tour on the special touches, ha!

So what are your favorite pieces? Leave a comment and let me know, and if you want do this easy home improvement ideas!

If you do, I promise you will love it!

As always, I hope this message finds you and your family well.

I look forward to seeing you in and around Village Antiques in Houston.

In friendship,

Amitha
