Life felt like chaos.
Everything from work life to home life was going a zillion miles an hour.
I could barely keep up and felt as though I was moving through piles and stacks of “stuff” throughout my day, which in fact I was.
I literally felt anxious, and as if I was going out of my mind.
Pre-COVID, there was really no way to slow down life, right friend?
So, I decided to do something differently with my home life.
That’s when I fell in love with Roy.
Roy is not my husband, (Bobby is). In fact, Roy is not even a person.
I decided to implement a little bit more home organization to remove the feeling of craziness all around me.
Roy is a home organization process (and one of my best home organizing tips) that I used to get the chaos in my home under control. The piles, the stuff, the mess, and the chaos.
Roy is part of the phrase, ROYGBIV which is one of my best home organization tools and tips to stay organized.
When I am organizing clothes, clothing closets, playrooms, legos, crayons, jewelry drawers, and books, I use this home organizing system to get things color coordinated and to create a sense of order.
I’m sure like me, you’ve drooled over those gorgeous Instagram pics of beautifully and perfectly organized homes.
But organizing your home like that can take a lot of time and can cost a lot of money.
ROYGBIV is one of my favorite organizing tricks whenever I’m organizing areas such as bookshelf, kids room, or closet because it:
1. Is a very easy, low cost, organizing system to follow.
2. You can get started today, and finish organizing your area in one day
3. You can easily find something you are looking for
4. You can easily know where to put an item back
5. It looks beautiful when you are done
So how do you get started color coordinating with ROYGBIV when you are organizing your home?
I start sorting and grouping the objects I am organizing in rainbow color so that they have a very color coordinated and systemized look throughout my home.
I start with white, and then move to blush, pink tones, and then down through the rainbow like this:
1. Red
2. Orange
3. Yellow
4. Green
5. Blue
6. Indigo
7. Violet
After violet, I add all of my grays and then keep on going darker until I get to black.
I usually start with little groups on the floor, and when I’m done, I put everything back according to those colors or the ROYGBIV formula.
This one home organizing tip will help you in many spots throughout your home, like it did mine.
In our home, my boys had their books everywhere. They were a mess throughout our house and a mess even when they were in our bookshelves.
I loved using this home organization idea to finally create some order in this little corner of our home.
My boys even added a little addition of their favorite toys to personalize their bookshelf decor.
I love working right next to the bookshelf where I used this organizing tip in my own home. Looking at a rainbow sorted, color-coordinated bookshelf is so soothing, don’t you agree?
And once you do your bookshelves, you too will be excited to share your bookshelf shelfie on social media!
Totally do-able right?
Leave a comment and tell me where you are going to use this home organizing tip today!
Till the next time we meet, keep making your home amazing with your design gifts.
Most gratefully,
Amitha
