How to Embrace the Latest Color Trend in Your Home

When my boys Rohan and Dayven were little, my Mama often came over to help me.

I honestly don’t know what I would have done without her. She made those challenging baby and toddler years so much fun and incredibly special. To this day, she and the boys have such an indelible bond.

It was tough having two kids under the age of three, and dealing with constant home renovations. I truly relied on her and genuinely enjoyed having her company.

Mom had one caveat, though.

She said, “If I’m going to come over – especially when I spend the night – my room better be nice.”

FYI, “nice” is mom speak for “it better be amazing” 😉

So of course, I made her room “nice” (a.k.a. amazing). To this day, it’s actually one of the prettiest rooms in our home.

And I did it using this year’s soon-to-be big trend.

Now don’t get me wrong. In my last renovation, much of my palette was built around white and gray tones.

The palette is so soft and soothing, and has lent itself to include pops of jewel tones and richer shades of blue throughout my home which I still adore to this day.

Over time, though, it became monotonous and repetitive.

I found myself craving something more.

There was a breaking point. I was pushed to make a change when I had a deadline approaching.

I took a chance, tried it and, well, I absolutely LOVE it!

Mark my words – this color is going to find its way into your home at some point this year.

It’s going to be a big, but subtle design trend, and one that I encourage you to embrace.

So what is this undercover trend that’s going to sneak into your home and heart, no matter what color palette you’ve chosen?

The color green!

Yes, green.

I know you’re thinking, nope – no way, but just keep reading.

Little by little this color started creeping into my home, and over the years, it totally grew on me.

It’s not overwhelming, it’s just a little pop of color here and there, and what I suggest for your own home.

Interestingly there will be a lot of green showing up in home decor this year, so here are a few ways you can use it in your own home.

Tip 1: Tackle the walls

Usually when I give advice, I suggest starting in the smallest way possible to ease into something new, but this week I’m going all in!

I actually painted my mom’s entire room green. I love the color, because it’s so fresh and calming. In fact, my mom’s room is the most serene room in our entire home.

What I love about this color is that it can go with anything! Blue, white, blush, yellow – you name it, anything goes.

In her room, I have a yellow rug and four different colors of painted furniture.

Too much? No way! Everything works together perfectly!

Tip 2: Incorporate natural greens.

Here’s an easy way to add a splash of green color into your home.

Add a style of boxwoods to bring some natural freshness into your home. Just in time for spring!

You will love this pop of color and freshness in your home. The best part is, you can leave this out all year long.

Tip 3: Botanicals are the bomb

One of my absolute favorite pieces of wall art is my set of pressed botanicals. I have a set of 12 which I often sit in front of when I’m working from home.

It’s so soothing and peaceful, it instantly sends me to my creative place.

Luckily for you, you can get this same style of artwork at Village Antiques.

On that note, I’ve included little pops of green in a few of my other art pieces and panels throughout my home – not a lot, just in 1 to 2 spots. That’s really all you need!

I have a piece just like this over my dining room buffet.

What I love about this color is that you can layer and add more pieces of art in the same room, incorporating a variety of non-matching colors without it feeling mismatched or chaotic.

Tip 4: Add in some accents

I’m adding these pillows to my sofa this spring to bring a bit of seasonal color and freshness into my home.

Another way to add a little bit of green into your decor:

Your lamps! Who says they all have to be wood, white or gold?

Tip 5: Kick things up a notch with your furniture

This is going to sound crazy, but one of things I loved the most about this color was adding into my furniture.

Yes – green furniture!

Once I got started, I realized I love using this color in a variety of rooms.

In my mom’s room, I’ve got a green secretary and a green trimmed nightstand.

In my living room, I have a classic French style chair painted in Amitha Verma Chalk Finish Paint in Jardin Green.

I’ve had some of these pieces for over eleven years, and I still LOVE them.

So, if you’re a fan but don’t want to go all out, add a piece of decor or furniture to bring a sense of calmness into your home.

Here’s my latest green find:

I can’t wait to find a spot for these in my home! I’m obsessed with antique chairs (just how many is too many is a whole different conversation), but I love all the subtle shades of green in these chairs.

So what do you think, dear friend? Are you ready to embrace this hot new color trend in your home? Leave a comment and let me know your opinion!

In friendship,

Amitha
