when nothing would work, what I told mom to do

My mom said she didn’t like that idea.

“Nope, what else you got?” she asked me.

I was talking to her on Sunday morning as we always do, during our weekend coffee chat and she asked me, “What should I put on my breakfast room wall?”

I replied, and told her a beautiful vintage or antique painting.

She said, “No.”

Mom feels she has too many paintings, and many of them are floral and pastoral scenes. You can see that wall right when you come in from the back door so she wants something wow!

So she asked me, “What else can I do?”

I told her my answer of the very thing I suggest when you have more than enough paintings, and you need a wow piece.

Too many paintings, try these.

Whenever I need a really stunning WOW piece of art, and it cannot be a painting, I turn to these gorgeous three dimensional pieces of art.

One of my trusty design tricks is to add raised relief and carved panels into my projects to add dimension and texture in a subtle and often monochromatic (or low color) way.

Wondering what those are?

Mom was too.

Take a look at some of these below.

You will love the three dimensional quality of these pieces of art. They add incredible depth to any wall.

They are so textural and interesting they immediately grab your eye.

However, they are not overwhelming, and do not conflict with other pieces of art or fabrics or color palettes because they tend to be very low color and monochromatic.

I especially love older, crusty, falling apart relic style pieces like these:

My mom, not so much, so I’m thinking she may opt for something a bit more polished and uniform like these:

I love how often the color is very simplistic and rather the beauty comes from the patterns, carvings, and overall dimensions and shapes like some of these:

So what do you think? Love it or leave it?

Would you use this in your home decor?

If so, where?

Leave a comment and let me know! You can find all of these and much, much more at Village Antiques. So stop by this week!

Till the next time we meet keep using your design passion to create heart in your home.

In friendship,

Amitha
